Purpose:  

An essential component of the DVGC monthly meetings is the horticulture presentation, Plant of the Month led by Gwen Brittain, Chair of our Horticulture Committee. In addition to the monthly presentation the DVGC Newsletter features content on the Plant of the Month and often provides Gwen’s Gardening Tips.

Starting in 2004 the Plant of the Month focused on native plants in the Northern Virginia area. The objective has been to increase our members’ knowledge and use of native plants. The long-term goal is that members plant their gardens with 70% native plants and 30% benign, non-native plants according to Doug Tallemy.
